Confidentiality of Library Patron Records

The Ecorse Public Library supports every patron’s right to have his/her library records remain confidential.  To the extent allowed by Federal law and in compliance with the Michigan Library Privacy Act 455 of 1982, as amended, the Ecorse Public Library Complies with the guidelines set forth in said documents as regards confidentiality of patron records and circulation transactions.  No information will be released to any person, agency or organization with the exception in response to a valid court order or subpoena properly issued to the library administrator.  The only recognized and authorized exceptions are if a parent or legal guardian signs the Library Privacy Act (LPA) portion of a minor’s library card application.  Or, if the patron card owner gives written permission/consent to the person making the request, then that person may have access to the card owner’s library record.
