Meet the Staff

Melissa Adkins, Director

Melissa has been working in the library field for 10 years now and has experience doing just about every possible library job there is to do! She is passionate about diverse and equitable collections in libraries and enjoys giving book recommendations to all ages. Melissa loves coffee, Sherlock Holmes, tacos, Star Wars, and her large, wonderful family!

Melissa’s favorite book is “Persuasion”, by Jane Austen.

Alice Howard, Assistant Director and Programming Librarian

Alice has extensive library experience spanning federal, public, and international academic libraries. She leads the great majority of our programming at EPL. Alice has a tremendous amount of passion for libraries and librarianship. She is actually a second-generation librarian, a great rarity in our industry. Fun fact about Alice: She once taught water skiing without ever having water skied herself! Alice says she is so excited to serve our patrons and she can’t wait to meet everyone!

Alice’s favorite book is “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn,” by Betty Smith.

Oliver Wyrick, Library Assistant

Oliver is particularly passionate about collection organization! They help tremendously in our social media outreach efforts, and they are playing a huge role in the redevelopment of our collections. They will be one of the first points of service when the library opens. Fun fact about Oliver- they are a third-generation musician and have two degrees in French Horn Performance. Oliver says, “I’m just so excited to have the library open and be serving the community!”

Their all-time favorite book series is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Mina, Library Mascot

Mina is native to the city of Ecorse, and loves the library so much she decided to make her home here! Like other giraffes, she has a giant heart (did you know that giraffe hearts weigh almost 24 pounds?), and with such a big heart she can’t help but love all library patrons – although her favorite patrons are children. Came and say hello to Mina during your visit – she loves to meet new people!

Mina’s favorite book is “Carlo Likes Reading”, by Jessica Spanyol.
